I have never backed away from a fight when I knew that victory would bring real change. When President Barack Obama was an underdog in the 2008 primary, I was the first elected official in the entire state of New Jersey to publicly endorse him. Several prominent politicians waited until it was “safe” to support President Obama. I did what I thought was right when it needed to be done. I approach issues of Civil Rights for all Americans with the same dedication.
The United States Congress does not have enough brave progressive voices to take on the civil rights issues our country faces. I envision the entirety of the 10th District of New Jersey as being THE national example of how progressive policies can benefit Americans of all races, backgrounds, religions, sexual orientations and economic statuses. In Congress, I will consistently fight the Right Wing assault on Women’s Rights, Civil Liberties, Healthcare, LGBTQ issues, and Education. I will expose their hypocrisy on budgetary responsibility, taxes, and their failure to address major issues facing the middle class, minority, and immigrant communities.
I believe that Education, Social Security and basic Health Care are services that everyone should have access to in the 21st Century, and I am committed to helping the Obama administration defend and strengthen their related policies.
