  • Restored the hearing of citizens to the televised portion of the public Newark Municipal Council Meeting;
  • Provided 2 million dollars to the Summer Youth Employment and Training Program creating 1,000 additional summer jobs for Newark youth in 2006;
  • Provided 1.4 million dollars to purchase CCTVW Public Surveillance Cameras which will provide over 28 movable cameras for the most violent and drug plagued West Ward areas;
  • Supported the hiring of forensic auditor firms that have realized millions of dollars of savings for the city of Newark;
  • Co-sponsored and oversaw over 11 Safe Summer Initiative events in the West Ward during the summer of 2006;
  • Provided over 100 turkeys for West Ward residents for Thanksgiving Day;
  • Provided over 1,000 toys and 25 turkeys to West Ward residents for the X-Mas Holiday Season;
  • Sponsored legislation that was passed into law preventing fundraising in City hall and on city owned property;
  • Sponsored legislation that was signed into law creating an open appointments process for all city commissions and boards;
  • Sponsored legislation that was signed into law requiring disclosure of all campaign contributions from developers on applications before the Zoning Board and the Board of Adjustment;
  • Sponsored legislation creating the Office of the Inspector General;
  • Sponsored legislation establishing rules and prohibitions for “pay to play” contributions from redevelopers;
  • Sponsored legislation establishing rules and prohibitions for “pay to play” contributions from individuals, organizations, vendors, and businesses seeking city contracts;
  • Created the West Ward Collective, the first governing structure of the city of Newark that provides direct community control, transparency, and participation of average citizens in ward based governance and management;
  • Major contributor to restarting the Georgia King Village Tenant’s association, facilitating the first tenant meetings and the first interactions between local government, management, ownership and tenants;
  • Met with all West Ward public school principals and West Ward community based organizations;
  • Opened Little City Hall office in the neighborhoods within the first 100 days of being in office;
  • Handled over 350 West ward Constituent Complaints from July 1, 2006 to January 8, 2007
