GETTING INVOLVED
JOINING THE RICE, JR. REVOLUTION !!!!!

This page is dedicated to the many citizens in Newark and elsewhere that have expressed an interest in getting involved with the Friends of Ron Rice, Jr. 2006 campaign effort and to join the RICE, JR. REVOLUTION. Here are the ways you can get involved and help:

  • CONTRIBUTE FINANCIALLY: You can help us by contributing to the campaign with your dollars. We have a goal to raise $100,000 and no donation is too small. Soon, you will be able to contribute online via this website. Until that time, make all checks and/or money orders payable to:

  • JOIN A CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE: You can join a campaign committee and volunteer to do the hard work necessary to help Ron win. Your talents and skills are needed. Our committees are as follows:

    CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR STAFF:
    The coordinator and his staff will be responsible for the day to day operation of the campaign. The coordinator will be the contact person for all committees and the direct link to the candidate. The coordinator and his staff will be responsible for:

    •  Maintaining contact with each committee head on a regular basis and for the completion of assigned tasks of each committee;
    •  Organizing all meetings of the campaign and/or committees;
    •  Providing advice to the candidate and recruitment of additional campaign staffers for each committee;
    •  Twice a week briefings to candidate and/or with campaign's attorney or research and strategy committee head

    FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
    This committee is responsible for:

    1. Preparation and maintenance of the fundraiser database, potential and past donors;
    2. Outreach to groups, organizations and individuals that could potentially give to our campaigns;
    3. Outreach to Research/Strategy committee to access ELEC reports for donors that have contributed to like minded candidates;
    4. Maintaining and working with contact persons for fundraising events in NJ, NYC and DC in 2005;
    5. Providing logistical assistance with fundraising events with co-sponsors
    6. Outreach to Field Director to access volunteers to assist where needed;
    7. Outreach to Treasurer to work on budget for events and costs involved for ELEC reporting

    DATABASE / TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
    This committee is responsible for:

    •  Maintaining the databases for the campaign's

    Voter list
    Committed voter list
    Voter registration list
    Donor list
    Volunteer list (Rice, Jr. Revolution)
    Endorsement list
    Important contact list
    Media outlets and contact people/addresses, etc.
    Letter to Editor writers list

    The committee is also responsible for being able to print labels and cross reference data for other necessary campaign needs

    SCHEDULING
    The scheduler keeps the candidate's schedule. She must:
    •  Contact the candidate twice a week for calendar updates;
    •  Provide copies of the candidate's public schedule with all campaign staffers at every meeting;
    •  Make herself available to schedule events and additions suggested by campaign staffs and other outside group requests;
    •  Works in concert with campaign coordinator

    FIELD DIRECTOR
    This committee is responsible for three activities:
    •  Volunteer Management
    •  District Organization
    •  GOTV efforts in 2005 and 2006

    The committee, within the three activities, is responsible for:
    Recruitment of volunteers to assist with various field operations, including, but not limited to:

    Canvassing
    Voter Registration
    Phone banking
    Advance work
    Accompanying the candidate
    Literature dropping
    Sign Posting (stores and street)

    COMMUNICATION/ADVERTISING

    This committee is responsible for:

    • Issuing press releases
    • Locating media outlets for:
    • press releases;
    • event coverage (notification)
    • paid and free advertisement (need to find ad rates as well)
    • OP ED receiving;
    • Letter to Editor

    The committee will also:

    • Organize Letter to the Editor writer lists
    • Coordinate Letter to Editor efforts on various issues

    RESEARCH / STRATEGY COMMITTEE
    This committee will be responsible for coordinating:

    • Issue development and research of public policy stances and positions
    • Development of position papers on all relevant issues
    • Issue organization on the campaign website
    • Opposition research and legislative review
    • Development of campaign themes, message, and overall strategy
    • Overseeing of polling and review and processing of polling results
    • Overseeing of campaign literature, artwork, signs, etc.
    • Measurement/analysis of electorate reactions and reception of campaign themes

    TREASURER
    The Treasurer is responsible for:

    • The development of an operating and campaign budget for 2005 and 2006
    • Filing of all ELEC reports
    • Financial status report at all staff meetings (starting in February 2005)
    • Being the second signature on the campaign accounts
    • Working with the Fundraising committee and developing event budgets
    • Working with all committees and their funding needs
    • Deciding on reimbursements based on ELEC rules and regulations

    COMMUNITY OUTREACH COMMITTEE
    This committee is responsible for:

    • Developing contacts within the various ethnic, social, fraternal, groups of the city and forwarding to the database committee;
    • Inclusion and integration of various issues and stances of these groups in the campaign's set of values and issues;
    • Recruitment of a broad spectrum of various ethnic groups in Newark historically left out of the process and/or used in a "token" manner
    • Contacting various block associations, civic groups and organizations, etc.

    LEGAL COUNSEL
    The counsel to the campaign will be responsible for:

    • Overseeing all filed ELEC reports before mailing;
    • All monthly account statements
    • Providing legal opinions and analysis regarding campaign finance and ethics laws in NJ;
    • Assisting the Research/ Strategy committee in its needs and activities
    • Providing legal support for Election Day 2006
    • Organizing LAWYERS FOR RICE 2006 and potential legal community fundraisers
  • ORGANIZE OPPORTUNITIES FOR RON TO MEET WITH VOTERS: You can help Ron by providing opportunities for him to share his stands on the issues and specific vision for Newark with voters on your block, in your organizations, clubs, churches and community. You can do this by:

    -Hosting a meet and greet at your home;
    -Downloading copies of Ron's platform and sharing them with neighbors;
    -Sending people to this website ( www.ron-rice.com )
    -Sending Ron's online newsletter, The Rice Report, to other Newark voters
